Partial Government Shutdown to Come to an End

The House and Senate have cleared a five-bill package of spending bills for Fiscal Year 2026, including funding for the Departments of Transportation, Housing & Urban Development, Defense, Labor, Health & Human Services, State, and General Services Administration programs.

ACEC supported the bill, which fully funds the authorized levels for most transportation accounts under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Controversies over the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) led to a short-term extension of DHS funding through the end of next week. Lawmakers are attempting to negotiate new reforms and oversight requirements over immigration enforcement activities following recent high-profile incidents in Minnesota.

The Senate vote was 71-29. The House vote was 217-214.

Enactment of the spending bills ends a short-term lapse in appropriations over the weekend and avoids another prolonged government shutdown.
