ACEC Signs Letter Opposing Gas Tax Holiday
Today ACEC and the other members of the Transportation Construction Coalition sent a letter to lawmakers expressing our strong opposition to a gas tax holiday.
Read the letter here.
Our message is clear: suspending the gas tax does not appreciably lower prices and undermines the foundation of transportation funding. A better approach to addressing cost of living concerns is to invest in road, bridge, and transit improvements in a long-term surface transportation bill that improves road conditions, reduces congestion, and facilitates efficient supply chains.
This afternoon we had the opportunity to participate in an industry roundtable with Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, and this issue came up. Several of the groups in attendance raised these and other points of opposition to the Administration’s position.
It’s not clear what the path forward may be for congressional consideration of any gas tax holiday bill, and we know that there is some reluctance among members on both sides of the aisle. We will monitor developments closely and continue to advocate against this idea.
