WELL v2 Bronze Certification Demonstrates Leadership in Healthy, Sustainable Offices

Washington, D.C. — The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) proudly announces that it has been awarded WELL Certification at the Bronze level for its national headquarters by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The prestigious distinction was awarded through IWBI’s WELL v2, the latest version of the WELL Building Standard.

Created through seven years of rigorous research and development working with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, the WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research. The ACEC headquarters earned the distinction based on ten categories of building performance: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community.

“ACEC has a responsibility to lead by example,” said Linda Bauer Darr, president and CEO of ACEC. “Our commitment to promoting health, well-being, and sustainability within infrastructure is woven into all we do, and this certification recognizes the thoughtful, holistic approach we take to wellness in the workplace.”

ACEC’s certification highlights not only operational excellence but also the organization’s commitment to leading by example in the engineering industry.

“Achieving WELL Certification under WELL v2 showcases what ACEC member firms are capable of delivering: environments that prioritize the health, safety, and productivity of the people inside them,” Darr continued. “Our headquarters now serves as a living demonstration of the power of engineering design to improve lives.”

Unlike WELL Ratings, which are focused evaluations of select health and safety metrics, WELL Certification under v2 represents a comprehensive and integrated achievement that goes far beyond pandemic-era or operational guidelines. The certification reflects lasting design choices and measurable outcomes that align with ACEC’s mission to advance the business and quality of the built environment.

This milestone reinforces ACEC’s leadership in workplace innovation, sustainability, and occupant well-being. It also positions the Council as a real-world case study of the potential that engineering-driven solutions hold in advancing the global movement toward healthier spaces.
