ACEC Hawaii Celebrates Engineers Week with Proclamations
In recognition of the week, Mayor Kimo Alameda issued a formal proclamation declaring February 22–28, 2026, as Engineers Week in Hawaiʻi County, highlighting the contributions of local engineers to public safety, economic development, and community well-being.

In Hawaiʻi, engineering takes on particular significance. Our island environment, limited natural resources, and exposure to natural hazards require resilient, thoughtful, and forward-looking solutions. From water systems and transportation networks to renewable energy, housing, and coastal protection, engineers work daily to ensure that our built environment is safe, reliable, and sustainable.
Much of this work occurs behind the scenes, yet its benefits are felt every day—in clean drinking water, dependable power, safe schools and hospitals, and infrastructure that supports economic growth while respecting our natural and cultural landscape.

ACEC Hawaii’s Board President, Charles Jury, PE, attended the mayoral proclamation signing which recognized Engineers Week 2026 officially. The Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies organized the meeting with Honolulu County Mayor Rick Blangiardi and ACEC Hawaii, along with representatives from fellow member societies such as American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, Society of American Military Engineers, Hawaii Water Environment Association, Engineers Association of Hawaii, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the University of Hawaii College of Engineering, and the Structural Engineers Association of Hawaii were in attendance. The proclamation signing was held on Monday, February 23.

ACEC Hawaii also attended the Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies Kick-Off Banquet on February 21, in celebration of Engineers Week.
The annual banquet honors outstanding individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Hawaii’s engineering industry. ACEC Hawaii is one of HCES’ member societies and attends every year.

We are proud to share that the recipients of the HCES Lifetime Award, Engineer of the Year Award, and Young Engineer of the Year Award, all have ties to ACEC Hawaii through their firms: Bowers + Kubota Consulting, Coffman Engineers, and HDR.
ACEC Hawaii’s Board Vice President, Kealohi Sandefur, attended Governor Josh Green’s Proclamation Signing alongside fellow Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies’ member societies on Wednesday, February 25. The Proclamation officially declared February 22-28, 2026, as Engineers Week in the State of Hawaii. Read the Governor’s Proclamation for Engineers Week.
